We are now seeking a motivated, detail-focused Business and Finance Manager to join the senior team and help guide Avonwood's continued success.

The Role

This key position provides financial leadership and administrative oversight across the company. Reporting to both the Managing and Administration Directors, you will be responsible for supporting strategic decision-making, ensuring operational compliance, and managing core finance processes.

You'll contribute directly to the short, medium and long-term goals, bringing clarity, control and insight to our financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Managing Director with company-wide financial planning
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports to the board and senior management
  • Oversee daily finance and accounting operations
  • Manage supplier payments and HMRC obligations
  • Ensure full VAT compliance
  • Liaise with external accountants and provide required year-end data
  • Prepare financial information for R&D tax credit claims
  • Manage foreign exchange risk
  • Administer and reconcile company credit card usage
  • Analyse product costing and report on margins
  • Manage payroll, pensions, and associated tasks
  • Approve and monitor monthly staff expenses
  • Work with managers to report and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Attend executive and management meetings to report on finance/admin matters

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a confident, proactive and experienced finance professional who is ready to take ownership of this important role.

You will need:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA), part-qualified or QBE
  • Previous experience in financial management within an SME
  • A strong grasp of UK payroll, HMRC compliance, and VAT legislation
  • Proficiency in financial systems and Excel
  • A detail-oriented and commercially aware mindset
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style
