Data Governance Manager
Robert Half Technology are assisting UK's market leading legal organisation to recruit a Data Governance Manager on a 12 month contract basis - Hybrid working - London based.
Seeking a Data Governance Manager to help shape and embed data governance practices across the organisation. Working closely with senior leadership, you will support the development of a structured governance framework that improves data quality, clarity and control across the full data lifecycle.
This role is primarily focused on data governance (70%), with additional responsibility in privacy and data protection (30%). It offers the opportunity to influence how data is defined, managed and trusted across the business.
Role
- The Data Governance Manager will support the development and delivery of the organisation's data governance programme and roadmap.
- Partner with business stakeholders to establish and embed governance best practices.
- Define and maintain standards, policies and processes covering the full data lifecycle.
- Develop clear business definitions and promote a common understanding of critical data across the organisation.
- Help define and document the enterprise data estate, including ownership, accountability and stewardship models.
- Lead or support the implementation and adoption of data cataloguing capabilities.
- Establish and monitor data quality practices, metrics and controls to improve confidence in organisational data.
- Engage and influence stakeholders across multiple functions to drive governance initiatives and ensure adoption.
- Contribute to privacy and data protection activities where required, ensuring alignment between governance and compliance objectives.
Profile
- The Data Governance Manager will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a Data Governance Specialist, Data Governance Manager or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience delivering data governance initiatives and frameworks.
- Practical knowledge of DAMA principles and industry-recognised data governance best practices.
- Experience implementing or supporting data catalogue solutions and driving their adoption across an organisation.
- Understanding of how to define the strategic direction of a data governance function and translate this into practical initiatives.
- Exposure to data quality management, including an understanding of DAMA data quality dimensions and the controls required to improve and maintain data quality.
- Experience defining and documenting enterprise data estates, including data ownership and stewardship concepts.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong communication, facilitation and organisational skills.
Desirable Skills
- The Data Governance Manager will have experience supporting privacy and data protection activities.
- Knowledge of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
- Understanding of data retention policies and practices.
- Exposure to Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and associated processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance considerations relating to data management and protection.
