IT Director
Robert Half Technology are assisting a market leading PE-backed facilities organisation to recruit a Interim IT Director on an initial 8-12 month contract basis.
Objectives (8-12-Month Outcomes)
The Interim IT Director will be accountable for designing and executing a transformation roadmap, delivering tangible improvements across cost, service quality, resilience, and commercial value.
- Digital Transformation & Value Creation
- Design and execute a clear, prioritised digital transformation plan aligned to the PE value-creation strategy.
- Translate technology initiatives into commercial outcomes (cost reduction, productivity, service improvement, scalability).
- Establish clear governance, milestones, and success metrics within the business.
- Automation, AI & Process Efficiency
- Identify and deliver automation and AI opportunities that reduce manual effort, improve speed, and enhance customer and internal service experience.
- Simplify and streamline core business processes, removing friction and failure points.
- Outsourced IT Review & Supplier Reset
- Conduct a rapid but thorough review of the current outsourced IT model (including Aura).
- Address poor service levels, slow response times, and lack of value for money.
- Redesign the sourcing strategy: renegotiate, replace, or re-tender providers as required.
- Deliver cost transparency, improved SLAs, and materially better service quality.
- Resolve issues around overpriced, second-hand equipment and long lead times.
- IT Security & Risk Management
- Assess and remediate cyber and operational security risks.
- Ensure the business meets an appropriate level of security maturity for a PE-backed organisation preparing for exit.
- Put in place pragmatic, proportionate controls and incident response capability.
- Data & Analytics Capability
- Improve access to reliable management information and analytics.
- Enable data-driven decision-making across the executive team.
- Define a realistic roadmap for analytics maturity aligned to business need.
- IT Procurement & Commercial Control
- Establish disciplined IT procurement processes.
- Ensure technology spend is justified, benchmarked, and ROI-led.
- Introduce stronger commercial management of vendors and contracts.
- Build a Fit-for-Purpose IT Function
- Design and implement an appropriate target operating model for IT, balancing in-house capability and outsourced services.
- Clarify roles, accountability, and governance.
- Upskill or reshape the existing IT Manager role as part of a sustainable future-state function.
- Core Systems & Operating System Remediation
- Address critical system instability, including replacement of the unsupported operating system (in place since November 2015).
- Build a robust business case for change, clearly articulating risk, cost, ROI, and implementation roadmap.
- Reduce system failures and downtime, improving operational resilience.
- Exit Readiness
- Ensure all initiatives support the broader objective of maximising valuation and exit readiness for summer 2027.
- Improve technology due-diligence readiness, documentation, resilience, and scalability.
- Leave behind a clear technology roadmap that extends beyond the interim engagement.
Profile Type
- Proven Interim IT Director / Technology Transformation Lead experience in PE-backed or highly commercial environments.
- Strong track record of fixing underperforming outsourced IT models.
- Commercially astute, able to build ROI-led business cases and challenge spend.
- Hands-on, delivery-focused, and credible at board and CEO level.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and moving at pace.
