Management Accountant
Robert Half is working with an established Financial Services business to recruit a Management Accountant into its Finance team.
This is an opportunity for a qualified accountant who thinks differently.
Our client is looking for someone who combines strong accounting fundamentals with a genuine interest in systems, data and technology. Someone who enjoys understanding how data gets from source systems into Finance, isn't afraid to get into the detail, and is interested in finding better ways of doing things.
This is a role for someone who wants to be part of the future development of finance, rather than simply maintaining existing processes.
What will you be doing?
- Preparing and delivering monthly management accounts, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting across the Group and its subsidiaries.
- Getting underneath existing month-end processes, understanding how they work and identifying where they can be rebuilt or improved.
- Working with source systems and large datasets to investigate data quality, discrepancies and reporting issues.
- Using Excel, VBA/macros, SQL, Power BI, AI or other technology to improve processes, automate repetitive work and make financial information more reliable.
- Developing meaningful KPIs, variance analysis and management information to support decision-making.
- Working with colleagues across Finance and the wider business to improve the flow and quality of information into Finance.
- Contributing to the development and upskilling of the wider Finance team.
- Supporting senior Finance stakeholders with wider projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a solid grounding in management accounting and financial reporting.
Financial Services, banking, fintech, insurance or another regulated environment would be highly relevant, but we're also interested in accountants from other sectors who can demonstrate the right technical mindset.
More important than having a long list of technical qualifications is being someone who:
- Is genuinely interested in systems, data and technology.
- Enjoys working with large datasets and complex reconciliations.
- Isn't afraid to get into the detail and understand where the numbers come from.
- Looks at a process and thinks "there must be a better way of doing this."
- Has an appetite to use AI, automation, VBA/macros, SQL, Power BI or similar tools to improve Finance.
- Can combine technical curiosity with strong accounting fundamentals.
- Is confident working with stakeholders and challenging established processes constructively.
Why is this role different?
The business is looking for a finance recruit for the future.
You won't simply be expected to produce the numbers and move on. You'll have the opportunity to understand the underlying systems and data, help rebuild inefficient month-end processes, improve reporting and controls, and contribute to the development of the finance function.
It would suit an accountant who is perhaps a little different from the traditional profile - someone who enjoys accounting but also enjoys working out how things work, solving problems and using technology to make them better.
If you're a qualified accountant who is not afraid of data, systems or technology and wants to play a role in shaping the future of finance, we'd be keen to hear from you.
