Solution Architect

Robert Half Technology are assisting a rapidly growing financial services organisation to recruit a Interim Solution Architect on a contract basis. Hybrid working - London based

We combine deep domain expertise with innovative, bespoke delivery to help clients solve complex risk, data, AI, and technology challenges. As a Solutions Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the design, engineering direction, and delivery quality of both client and internal solutions - ensuring robustness, scalability, auditability, and alignment with organisational standards of excellence.

You'll work closely with the Business and IT & Security teams to assess new ideas for tools, accelerators, and reusable components with strong architectural thinking. This role blends advisory work, hands-on solution design, and the opportunity to influence the next generation of technical and AI-enabled offerings.

Role

Architecture and Solution Design

  • The Solution Architect will translate business requirements into high-quality solution architectures and design specifications.
  • Develop logical and physical architecture diagrams, integration patterns, data flows, and component models.
  • Ensure all designs follow enterprise architecture principles, technology roadmaps, and security standards.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy options and lead technical assessments of software, platforms, and cloud services.
  • Support project mobilisation, helping teams establish tooling, cloud environments, engineering standards, and delivery patterns.

Collaboration

  • Contribute to product roadmaps, emphasising scalability, reusability, and alignment with long-term organisational strategy.
  • Support delivery teams to ensure architectural patterns are implemented consistently and efficiently.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide architectural guidance to delivery and IT Security teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Review technical designs, code, and configurations to ensure alignment with approved architecture.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the project lifecycle.
  • Drive architectural governance, ensuring traceability, documentation accuracy, and compliance.
  • Ensure solutions meet compliance standards (e.g. ISO 27001).

AI & Data Awareness

  • Ensure solution designs support AI/ML-enabled capabilities where relevant (e.g. data lineage, governance, feature management, and model integration patterns).
  • Collaborate with wider technical teams to define integration approaches for predictive analytics, generative AI services, or model-driven systems.
  • Recognise and address architectural implications of model lifecycle management (versioning, replicability, and auditability).

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support pre-sales activities by contributing architectural expertise to early discovery, proposals, and RFP responses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proven experience designing solutions across application, data, integration, and infrastructure domains.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architectures (preferably Azure) and modern delivery practices (API-led, microservices, CI/CD, DevOps).
  • Expert-level knowledge of the Software Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) and supporting tools.
  • Ability to produce clear and structured documentation, including HLDs/LLDs, sequence diagrams, data flows, and security models.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Experience with enterprise security principles, identity management, and governance frameworks.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem solving.

Desirable

  • Experience designing architectures involving Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, or similar modern data platforms.
  • Relevant cloud certifications (e.g. Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
  • Experience working within regulated industries (finance or other data-sensitive environments).
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman).
  • Background in software engineering, data architecture, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Exposure to designing internal accelerators, frameworks, or reusable components.
  • Awareness of AI/ML architecture patterns, generative AI integration considerations, or data lineage and monitoring concepts.
