Information Systems Analyst
Job summary
We are seeking to recruit Senior Information Systems Analyst within our busy Information Team. asthe Trust recently implemented a new Electronic Patient Record and are about to begin the implementation of Business Intelligence Software.
We are looking for an individual who will work within a small development team to enhance and maintain our data warehouse infrastructure. You will contribute to the design, build and transformation of data from core Trust systems in our data warehouse to ensure the data is available for Analyst colleagues in the team. You should have technical skills in SQL Server data warehousing.
As a Specialist Trust we are a small team so you will be required to work closely with Analyst colleagues and stakeholders within the Trust. This brings great opportunities to support and understand the operational requirements of the organisation and see how the data supports patient care.
Priority will be given to applicants from the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICS.

Main duties of the job
You will work closely with small Development Team and other Analysts in the team to enhance the Data Warehouse that was recently built to support the new Electronic Patient Record throughout the Trust.
The key purpose of the role is to provide an information service to support the data analysis and information management needs of the Trust. The post holder will need to ensure the effective functioning of the various information technology systems and co-ordinate system development and implementation as well as being responsible for improving the processing, production, and distribution of activity and performance information within the Trust.

To act as the Database Administrator for the Trust data warehouse:
To be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the operational function of the data warehouse daily e.g. ensuring that all data extracts and automated imports have successfully completed
To be responsible for the loading of reference and other data into the data warehouse in a timely manner.
To act as a first point of contact for all enquiries regarding the Data Warehouse and to take the lead on responding to any potential issue escalating as necessary to other senior members of the team.
By actively leading on developing the data warehouse working closely with key members of the team, suppliers and developers. This will involve creating bespoke designs and solutions potentially influencing the working practice of own area and beyond.
Tobe responsible for ensuring, with IT support, the maintenance of the Information Department databases and applications including backup data.
Take a lead role with the maintenance and development of the Trust's existing in-house databases and applications such as:
To identify opportunities to build on the existing information databases and Information Department reporting platforms
To design build and implement effective solutions to both expand the scope of the Apollo EPR system, CRIS (radiology system) and Theatres systems, and wherever possible streamline the data handling processes around these systems.
To coordinate the specification, design and implementation of new and revised information systems, and to be responsible for developing information solutions to agreed specifications.
Responsible for the production and maintenance of documentation on the design, testing and use of information systems and in sufficient detail that others mightmodify, support or use the system.
Ensure any changes to information systems adhere to the Trusts change control process.
Maintain and develop own knowledge of NHS data structures. Ensure that any system development isin accordance with NHS Data Dictionary.
To be the lead technical specialist (Database Design/Software code/Programming) for the Information Department and to support team members by providing expert advice in the writing of SQL and other software and be able to challenge them constructively so that they can develop their skills and improve the quality of their outputs.
For their area of responsibility to ensure that all national returns, internal routine reporting and information requests are dealt with within agreed timescales.
To develop a broad understanding of the Trusts key systems and processes to support requests for information.
Ensure that all information governance requirements for the security of sensitive data are maintained in systems developed or modified.
Promote an understanding of the quality,availability and best use of patient-based information within the Trust. Explaining and presenting on reporting to interested groups and working directly with staff groups that include Trust Board Executives, Clinicians and Senior Managers.
To undertake data processing and analytical work to support requests for information or to support an investigation into issues such as data quality queries. This will involve making judgements, within short timescales, involving assimilation of complex facts or situations, which require the analysis,interpretation and comparison of a range of options. There will also need to be an understanding of the queries posed by the requester to ensure accurate feedback and solutions are given
Importance will be placed on the content and layout ofsubsequent analyses, requiring further manipulation within products such as Excel prior to presenting to the users. Outputs will need to be validated to ensure consistency. It will also be necessary to spend time with the users to ensure they understand the analyses and to provide explanation and interpretation for any areas of uncertainty.
To provide guidance on theappropriate definition, collection, validation, and processing of data.
Working closely with the Data Quality Team is an integral part of the post holders role:
To be proactive in all data quality initiatives liaising with data providers as appropriate.
Report any data quality issues that are identified in the role to the Data Quality Team immediately.
To carry out data validation and reconciliation exercises to ensure the integrity of data
Tocomply with, use and support senior informatics staff in the continued ongoing development of Information Management policy and protocols throughout the organisation which could impact on other teams and functions.
To ensure that all operational procedures and protocols are undertaken and completed within timescales.
To develop andmaintain effective working relationships with clinical and managerial staff across the organisation. To work closely with the senior staff to encourage the collection and use of accurate data to obtain improvement in the management of clinical services
To contribute fully to key Trust projects, as directed, by taking the lead for information supporte.g. Electronic Patient Records (EPR).
To keep skills up to date and relevant to carry outappropriate tasks in relation to the core information systems and desktop applications.
To activelyparticipate in any training and development programmes and ensure that all requirements are completed within agreed timescales.
Toparticipate in forums to update staff on any organisation/national issues.

To provide cover for other members of the Information Team to enable the smooth running of information services and support the delivery of the information requirements ofTrust.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree in IM&T/data related discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience
- GCSE A* - C in Mathematics or equivalent
- Qualification in advanced IT Use (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Excel, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Access)
