This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys building robust, scalable Power BI solutions.

The Role

As an Analytics Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and delivering Power BI semantic models and reports aligned to a set of established analytics accelerators. You'll work closely with both internal data engineering teams and business stakeholders to ensure analytics solutions are reliable, performant, and ready for self-service use.

You'll play a key role in translating data delivered via Microsoft Fabric into well-structured analytical models and intuitive Power BI reports that drive real-world decision-making.

Analytics Engineer Duties:

  • Develop high-quality dashboards and reports, including complex DAX measures
  • Own the full Power BI lifecycle, from modelling and development through to deployment, access, and security
  • Apply best practice around modelling standards, performance optimisation, and governance
  • Documentation & Quality
  • Define and document data views and tables required for build within Fabric
  • Produce clear technical documentation covering datasets, logic, and report design
  • Support testing, QA, and UAT to ensure solutions are accurate and production-ready
  • Respond to and resolve Power BI support tickets efficiently
  • Collaboration & Delivery
  • Work closely with senior analytics leadership to deliver against agreed specifications
  • Partner with data engineers to ensure data sources meet modelling requirements
  • Engage with business users to understand reporting needs and promote data-driven decision-making
  • Deliver to deadlines across multiple workstreams

As Analytics Engineer, you will have:

  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, covering the full end-to-end lifecycle, including modelling, DAX, Power Query, workspace management, and security.
  • Data modelling principles and star schema design
  • Advanced DAX and optimisation techniques
  • Power Query (M)
  • Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse/Warehouse, semantic models, pipelines)
  • Git / DevOps workflows and deployment processes
  • Working with stakeholders to gather requirements and hand over solutions
  • Data visualisation best practice
  • UAT processes and documentation
  • Experience working with local government or public sector datasets is desirable.
  • Background in consulting or delivery-focused environments is desirable.
