CLOUD ENGINEER
Salary: £70,000 - £85,000Location: London
What you'll do:
As a Cloud Engineer based in London, you will play an essential role in supporting AWS public cloud infrastructure while championing automation through Infrastructure as Code solutions such as Terraform. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with SRE and engineering teams to enhance system observability, proactively managing operational risks, maintaining high standards of security compliance, and ensuring robust disaster recovery capabilities. You will be responsible for documenting risks, tracking remediation actions, implementing process improvements, and communicating progress clearly across multiple teams. Success in this position requires you to combine deep technical knowledge with excellent interpersonal skills-ensuring that every aspect of the cloud environment is secure, resilient, and aligned with business needs. Your contributions will help safeguard critical financial systems relied upon by thousands of counterparties worldwide.
* Prioritise production service by responding promptly to all incidents, problems, and requests related to cloud-hosted services to ensure seamless business operations.* Maintain the reliability and security of cloud environments by implementing robust monitoring tools and adhering to industry best practices.* Enhance observability and telemetry within cloud-hosted environments using SRE methodologies to deliver on Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Objectives (SLOs), and Indicators (SLIs).* Document and regularly review operational risks within the cloud environment, ensuring that identified issues are tracked with clear actions and timelines.* Define and implement standards and procedures that align with current best practices while driving continual improvement across all cloud services.* Ensure security standards are consistently applied in the cloud environment by delivering timely upgrades and security updates to minimise risk.* Maintain service resilience for all cloud-hosted services through effective backup strategies and disaster recovery processes, including planning and conducting quarterly DR tests.* Collaborate closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and engineering teams to ensure optimal management of the cloud environment.* Support asset management processes throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance with end-of-service (EOS) and end-of-life (EOL) requirements.* Communicate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders at all levels to provide regular updates on complex deliveries.
What you bring:
* Demonstrated experience supporting AWS Cloud Hosted environments within an operational or infrastructure support capacity for at least three years.* Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform; familiarity with Ansible is highly desirable.* Experience applying SRE methodologies within support teams along with an understanding of Service Level metrics such as SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs.* Strong grasp of operational risk management processes including practical application of security best practices in production environments.* Hands-on experience planning and executing disaster recovery fail-overs for IT systems or services within regulated industries.* Solid understanding of asset management processes including lifecycle management (EOS/EOL) for technology assets.* Ability to use AWS services confidently including networking concepts and security configurations relevant to large-scale deployments.* Knowledge of at least one programming language-preferably Python-to automate tasks or integrate systems efficiently.* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines tailored for cloud-hosted environments using tools like GIT, Jenkins, Terraform or Ansible.* Excellent communication skills enabling you to explain complex technical issues clearly to both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
