General Counsel

We have recently partnered with a global technology lead marketing business looking to recruit a General Counsel. This is a truly exciting time to join the business as they go through significant growth and AI enabled change to support their strategy.

You will lead the in-house team made up of four lawyers and have responsibility for managing compliance.

As well as the responsibility of managing the team, you will remain hands on with a wide variety of commercial matters, including advertising and media, IT, IP, outsourcing, internet and digital media, data protection and security issues. The successful candidate must provide practical, commercial, solution-driven advice and would need to have a strong commercial background with broad-ranging experience. The candidate should be comfortable supporting senior executives and working on projects with cross-functional business teams.

A snapshot of responsibilities include:

  • Execution of Strategy: To ensure that the Legal Team delivers class-leading, service-oriented in-house legal services to all areas of the business, in line with the strategies set by the business
  • Legal Team Management: To support, develop and lead members of the Legal Team to ensure that all Legal Team objectives are met, that the highest levels of legal service are delivered and to support all aspects of the business globally acting as a "leader" by example. Create an environment within the team that inspires high performance and hold all team members accountable to performance objectives and behaviour standards, to include documented periodic reviews of performance.
  • Solutions-orientation: To provide timely cost effective legal advice and pragmatic and commercial solutions to complex business problems to ensure competitive advantage is maintained.
  • Risk Identification: To identify, assess and manage legal risk to minimize the liability of the business whilst ensuring the business strategy is achieved.
  • Business Strategy and Process Alignment: To gain a deep understanding of the business strategy, business and processes and develop close internal relationships, as a business partner, to key stakeholders in the business, including Finance, Tax, Commercial, Treasury, HR, etc.
  • Drafting and advising on a wide variety of contracts: To support the business in its contract negotiations, providing advice and drafting as appropriate, on a wide variety of contracts such as advertising and creative services, digital application development, software licences, software-as-a-service and IT services, data analysis, data licences, outsourcing, supply/purchase contracts, services agreements and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Intellectual property work, including advising on the protection and licensing of intellectual property rights, drafting IP assignment, licensing and indemnity provisions and advising on IP rights management.

In addition to your technical skills, you will be well versed in building strong internal relationships with key departments and stakeholders in the business.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and demanding environment and must complement the small, dedicated, collaborative and passionate legal team, working closely with business leaders and reporting into the CEO.
