Head of Finance Transformation

My client, one of the most prestigious institutions in the North West, are looking for a Head of Finance Transformation to join their head office finance team in Liverpool.

This is your chance to shape the future of financial operations by leading the design and implementation of a cutting-edge ERP system that will underpin financial reporting and processes for years to come.

The position offers significant autonomy, responsibility, and visibility, allowing you to influence key decisions and drive meaningful change across the finance function.

With a hybrid working model based in Liverpool, you will enjoy flexibility while collaborating with talented colleagues in a supportive environment. If you are passionate about delivering impactful transformation, thrive in complex settings, and are eager to make a lasting difference, this role could be the perfect next step in your career.

What you'll do:

  • Oversee the configuration of the new ERP system to ensure it aligns closely with customer requirements while minimising customisation and maximising system performance.
  • Support the seamless integration of ERP with other platforms to guarantee efficient data flow, compatibility, and operational effectiveness throughout the organisation.
  • Drive comprehensive change management initiatives by developing stakeholder communication plans and supporting the creation and delivery of tailored training programmes for all user groups.
  • Lead the design and documentation of new finance policies and procedures that align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of data migration including cleansing, mapping, validation, and ensuring data integrity during transition to the new ERP system.
  • Support rigorous testing and quality assurance activities by developing test scripts, coordinating unit and user acceptance testing (UAT), validating workflows, monitoring system performance, and managing defect resolution.
  • Develop automated financial reporting solutions that enhance decision-making capabilities and operational efficiency across multiple departments.
  • Maintain clear project documentation by communicating outstanding actions promptly, tracking future activities, and monitoring technical, operational, and financial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams such as the Finance Systems Transformation Project team as well as external implementation partners to ensure consistency of approach where appropriate.
  • Engage with sector-wide stakeholders to identify process improvements within ERP and across Finance, ensuring solutions meet evolving business needs.

What you bring:

  • A proven track record in leading successful finance systems change projects within large or multifaceted organisations or deep knowledge of Management Accounting, Operational Finance or Corporate Finance within higher education environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial systems configuration principles and how data flows through such systems to support business objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across organisational boundaries to deliver shared outcomes.
  • A proactive approach to generating ideas for improvement along with strong communication skills for articulating benefits clearly to stakeholders.
  • Experience designing control-based finance policies and procedures that ensure compliance with both internal standards and external regulations.
  • Proven background in financial accounting coupled with familiarity using financial software packages for daily operations.
  • Expertise evaluating existing systems for improvement opportunities-analysing workflows, identifying bottlenecks, recommending enhancements or customisations-and successfully implementing changes.
  • Ability to present well-evidenced options and solutions to senior colleagues while responding constructively to feedback or challenge.
  • Experience documenting processes thoroughly as well as delivering effective training sessions for colleagues at various levels of technical proficiency.
  • Hands-on experience handling large datasets-including cleansing, mapping, validation-to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with operational requirements.
