What you'll do:

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will play an essential role in ensuring the secure operation and continuous improvement of the systems infrastructure supporting critical business operations. Your day-to-day activities will involve balancing hands-on technical tasks-such as configuring hypervisors or deploying new applications-with strategic planning around automation and monitoring. You will be responsible for developing robust internal tools that drive efficiency across environments while also participating in incident response duties as part of an on-call rota. Success in this position requires not only deep technical expertise but also strong communication skills for producing clear documentation and collaborating with colleagues. By proactively identifying areas for enhancement within the infrastructure landscape-and implementing solutions that uphold rigorous security standards-you will help maintain the organisation's reputation for reliability while contributing meaningfully to its ambitious growth plans.

* Maintain, configure, and ensure reliable operation of hypervisor platforms, virtual machines, containers, bare-metal servers, and all hosted applications within these environments.* Develop and sustain internal monitoring solutions, automation scripts, and dashboards that enhance consistency, repeatability, and visibility across multiple infrastructure environments.* Deploy new systems and applications to underpin both network infrastructure and customer environments in line with internal standards, security protocols, and industry best practices.* Participate in an on-call rota to provide timely incident response and resolution for critical infrastructure issues as they arise.* Produce clear, professional diagrams and documentation that accurately reflect system architecture and operational processes for both technical teams and stakeholders.* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies into existing infrastructure while maintaining high standards of reliability.* Diagnose complex technical issues using a methodical approach to troubleshooting that minimises downtime and ensures service continuity.* Prioritise multiple tasks effectively by balancing hands-on technical work with higher-level planning responsibilities.* Contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for increased automation or enhanced monitoring capabilities.* Stay up-to-date with emerging trends in infrastructure engineering to recommend improvements that align with organisational goals.

What you bring:

* Demonstrated experience as a systems administrator or similar role within relevant industries such as telecommunications or enterprise IT services.* Advanced proficiency working with Linux/Unix systems (including RedHat and Debian variants) alongside experience managing Windows Server and Desktop environments.* Strong scripting abilities using Bash, Powershell, or Ansible; familiarity with Python is considered advantageous for further automation initiatives.* Expertise in virtualisation platforms as well as container orchestration technologies-including associated tooling-to optimise resource utilisation across diverse workloads.* Hands-on knowledge of monitoring stacks such as Prometheus or Grafana along with log management solutions like ELK/EFK or their equivalents.* Proven ability to diagnose intricate technical problems using structured troubleshooting methodologies that minimise disruption to business operations.* Exceptional organisational skills enabling effective prioritisation of concurrent tasks within fast-evolving infrastructure landscapes.* Excellent written communication skills evidenced by the production of clear diagrams and professional documentation suitable for both technical audiences and stakeholders.* A collaborative mindset with a willingness to share knowledge openly while supporting colleagues' development within a communal team environment.* A commitment to upholding high standards of security compliance throughout all aspects of infrastructure management.
