Software Asset Manager
A leading financial services organisation is seeking a highly organised and compliance-focused Software Asset Manager to drive the transformation and maturity of its Software Asset Management (SAM) function across the EMEA region. This is a strategic role covering software governance, compliance, tooling, lifecycle management, and audit readiness within a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities Software Asset Lifecycle Management

Develop and maintain software lifecycle policies, processes, and standards.

Oversee the full lifecycle of software assets: procurement, deployment, usage tracking, renewals, and retirement.

Maintain a centralised and accurate software inventory using SAM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and integrate with procurement/finance systems.

Ensure software usage aligns with licensing entitlements and vendor agreements.

Build and manage a comprehensive entitlement repository.

Ensure SAM practices comply with internal policies and external regulatory standards (SOX, GDPR, PRA/FCA etc.).

Lead and coordinate internal and vendor software audits.

Implement and maintain controls to prevent unauthorised software usage.

Prepare accurate licence and compliance documentation for audit purposes.

Support procurement and business owners with vendor engagement, contract reviews, renewals, and true-ups.

Work with procurement and legal teams to secure cost-effective licensing agreements.

Track contract timelines to ensure timely renewals and compliance.

Analyse utilisation data to identify cost-saving opportunities and under-used licences.

Support software rationalisation and re-harvesting initiatives.

Produce clear dashboards and reports covering utilisation, compliance, and software spend.

Recommend improvements to procurement, deployment, and decommissioning processes.

Work closely with procurement, finance, and IT operations on asset procurement and budgeting.

Monitor utilisation and identify opportunities for redeployment or optimisation.

Provide training and guidance to teams using SAM processes and tools.

Strong knowledge of ITIL practices related to Software Asset Management.

Proven understanding of software licensing models (SaaS, subscription, perpetual, cloud).

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Experience delivering SAM-related projects in a large, complex organisation.

Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.

Experience working with SAM tools such as ServiceNow, Flexera, or Snow.

Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or similar.

Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, CSAM, CITAM or ISO 19770.

5+ years' experience in SAM roles within financial services or other regulated environments.

Strong understanding of software audit processes and financial management of software assets.
