What you'll do:

In the capacity of Windows Platform Engineer, you will assume a central role in safeguarding the reliability and efficiency of the organisation's infrastructure estate. Your daily undertakings will encompass the creation of robust tools and processes aimed at automating operational tasks, enhancing system performance, and supporting seamless cloud migration initiatives. You will engage with cross-functional teams to deliver projects grounded in Infrastructure as Code principles, proactively monitor systems for emerging issues, and conduct meticulous root cause investigations post-incident. By collaborating with development teams on testing regimes and release management, you will facilitate service enhancements whilst upholding stringent standards of security and compliance. Your expertise will further be called upon for the preparation of comprehensive documentation, liaison with audit functions, identification of cost efficiencies, and deputisation for team leads when necessary. The breadth of this role ensures intellectual engagement-ranging from technical consultancy to hands-on administration-within a supportive environment where your contributions are both valued and impactful.

* Design and implement software solutions that enable infrastructure services to operate autonomously and provide self-service capabilities for operational teams throughout the organisation.* Champion continuous service improvement initiatives by applying Infrastructure as Code methodologies across the platform.* Reduce manual intervention by automating repetitive processes, thereby allowing greater focus on strategic objectives.* Enhance system performance through the optimisation of resource allocation, efficient load distribution, and latency reduction across critical platforms.* Establish Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to ensure consistent achievement of availability and latency targets for all infrastructure components.* Develop proactive monitoring mechanisms that identify early warning signs rather than merely responding to outages, thus facilitating timely intervention and minimising disruption.* Conduct thorough root cause analyses following incidents or outages to prevent recurrence and elevate overall system reliability.* Work closely with development teams to refine services through rigorous testing protocols and structured release management procedures.* Engage collaboratively with application teams to identify technical debt and formulate remediation strategies aligned with business priorities.* Produce detailed operational documentation and standardised procedures to promote consistency and clarity across all engineering activities.

What you bring:* A profound command of Microsoft Windows Server internals and associated technologies is indispensable for this appointment.* Demonstrable experience managing Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, LDAP, and Kerberos within extensive enterprise environments is essential.* A substantial background in hardware performance monitoring coupled with expertise in tuning complex low-latency systems is highly regarded.* An advanced understanding of Agile methodologies, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps principles, and industry best practices is required.* Expert proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python or C# facilitates effective automation of operational tasks.* Comprehensive knowledge of backup and recovery protocols ensures data integrity across all platforms under your stewardship.* Mastery in clustering technologies, high-availability configurations, replication techniques, and disaster recovery planning is crucial.* The ability to optimise network, storage, server, and virtualisation layers for peak performance evidences technical depth.* Experience interpreting CIS security hardening recommendations within regulated environments supports robust compliance measures.* Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts alongside CI/CD pipelines utilising tools such as Git, Ansible, Terraform or TeamCity is expected.* Experience with Serena Deployment Automation (SDA), Jenkins or analogous deployment tools enhances operational efficacy.* Desirable skills include authoring playbooks on AWX/Ansible Tower; advanced proficiency in Kubernetes/Docker orchestration; database administration (SQL Server/Oracle/Sybase/MongoDB/Snowflake); IBM Tivoli/Netcool; Nutanix HCI/VMWare ESX; networking protocols (TCP/IP/DNS/DHCP/VLANs); RHEL/Oracle Linux/Solaris; cloud computing (Azure/AWS/GCP/Oracle); data security governance (GDPR/SOX); Dell EMC PowerStore/Isilon; Rubrik/EMC Networker/Data Domain/IBM Tivoli Storage Manager; CyberArk; Splunk; Qualys; Cisco Tetration; ServiceNow; JIRA/Confluence.* Exemplary communication skills enable you to articulate intricate technical concepts lucidly to stakeholders at all levels.* The capacity to maintain composure during periods of heightened pressure ensures reliable operations are sustained at all times.* A results-oriented approach combined with unwavering accountability fosters trust among colleagues and clients alike.* A proactive disposition paired with methodical work habits allows you to prioritise effectively even amidst demanding deadlines.
