We’re seeking a highly skilled Cloud Database Migration Engineer to join a major transformation programme within a large enterprise organisation. This is a pivotal role leading critical cloud database migrations, helping modernise and future-proof our data infrastructure.
You’ll be instrumental in designing, transitioning, and administering large-scale cloud database environments, with a strong focus on Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles and high availability (HA) architecture.
This position sits inside IR35 and will require 3 days per week onsite in Central London . Initial contract is 3 months , with a strong likelihood of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and hands-on migration of a substantial database estate to cloud platforms.
- Modernise legacy SQL environments, upgrading databases to align with cloud-native standards.
- Architect and build highly available (HA) database solutions with robust disaster recovery strategies.
- Automate database provisioning and management via Infrastructure-as-Code using tools like Terraform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions.
- Integrate database operations into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring seamless deployment and version control processes.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, application, and security teams to align migration goals.
- Document processes, migration approaches, and knowledge share across teams.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Extensive hands-on experience with cloud database administration and migrations (e.g., Azure SQL, PostgreSQL).
- Strong background in managing Windows-based SQL Server environments across development, UAT, and production stages.
- Solid knowledge of designing high-availability (HA) database solutions in cloud environments.
- Practical expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
- Proven ability to automate database deployment, scaling, and configuration management.
- Understanding of CI/CD best practices for database deployments.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
Desirable:
- Certifications such as Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect.
- Experience delivering projects within regulated sectors (finance, healthcare, insurance, public sector).
- Awareness of security and compliance considerations in cloud data environments.
