Overview
Our client is embarking on a major on-premises to AWS migration and requires an experienced AWS FinOps Consultant to establish the financial operations framework that will guide and control this transformation.
This role will be responsible for building the FinOps capability from the ground up - defining processes, implementing tooling, and embedding best practices to ensure cloud adoption is cost-effective, transparent, and aligned to business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a FinOps operating model for AWS, including governance, reporting, and cultural adoption.
- Define and enforce cost allocation, tagging, and chargeback/showback frameworks across multi-account AWS environments.
- Collaborate with Cloud Architecture, Finance, and Procurement teams to integrate AWS cost management into existing business processes.
- Establish guardrails, budgets, and alerts to prevent cost overruns and ensure accountability.
- Select, configure, or advise on FinOps tooling (e.g., CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, AWS Cost Explorer, native AWS Budgets).
- Develop dashboards and KPI reporting to drive cost visibility and optimisation.
- Lead the education and enablement of engineering and finance stakeholders on FinOps principles.
- Support business case development, TCO modelling, and forecasting for the migration programme.
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in building or maturing FinOps practices within AWS environments.
- Deep understanding of AWS cost management, billing structures, and tagging strategies .
- Experience defining and delivering cost optimisation and governance frameworks .
- Familiarity with FinOps tooling such as CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, CloudZero, nOps, or similar.
- Ability to work across technical and commercial teams , translating cost data into actionable insights.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills at both technical and executive levels.
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent experience desirable.
Desirable
- Experience in cloud migration or transformation programmes .
- Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid cost management .
- Knowledge of governance, compliance, and automation in cloud cost management.
