We are looking for a capable, motivated and experienced Operations Manager to work closely with the Practice Manager and Assistant Practice Manager to build a strong and effective Senior Management Team (SMT).
The SMT will be responsible for the operational leadership of the practice, ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of all non-clinical services. Working collaboratively, the team will oversee the day-to-day management of the practice, support strategic development, drive continuous quality improvement, and ensure compliance with all regulatory, contractual and governance requirements.

Main duties of the job
The Operations Manager will lead on operational performance, CQC readiness and compliance, digital transformation, EMIS optimisation, quality improvement, clinical and non-clinical audits, research coordination, communications, website management, marketing and service development. They will work alongside the Assistant Practice Manager, who will lead on workforce management, HR, recruitment, reception and administration, ensuring a collaborative approach across all areas of practice operations.

We are active members of our PCN and our PCN staff are an integral part of our workforce supporting the delivery of QOF and other clinical and non-clinical care.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Management
- Support the day-to-day operational management of the practice.
- Develop and implement systems and processes that improve efficiency and patient experience.
- Monitor operational performance and recommend improvements where required.
- Support business continuity and risk management planning.
- Lead the practice's CQC compliance programme, ensuring continuous readiness for inspection.
- Develop, coordinate and monitor clinical and non-clinical audits.
- Maintain policies, procedures and governance documentation.
- Support the management of significant events, complaints, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Lead digital transformation projects across the practice.
- Optimise the use of EMIS Web and other clinical systems to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
- Work with external providers to implement new technologies and digital solutions.
- Ensure compliance with information governance and data protection requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve services and patient access.
- Support the implementation of new NHS initiatives and contractual requirements.
- Lead projects that improve operational performance and patient outcomes.
- Coordinate the practice's participation in research studies.
- Liaise with research networks and external organisations.
- Ensure studies are delivered in accordance with governance requirements.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Significant operational management experience within primary care, healthcare, or a similar regulated environment.
- Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.
- Experience of project management and service improvement.
- Knowledge of CQC standards, governance and quality assurance.
- Experience using clinical systems, preferably EMIS Web.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands and work under pressure.
- Management qualification or equivalent.
- Experience of NHS contracts and primary care performance frameworks.
- Knowledge of research governance.
- Experience in digital transformation and change management.

Experience
- The successful candidate must have significant senior operational management experience gained within a UK General Practice.
- Experience working at this level in a GP practice is essential due to the complexity of NHS primary care, including contractual requirements, regulatory compliance, workforce planning, digital systems and patient service delivery.
- Applicants who have worked solely in secondary care, community services or private healthcare will not meet the essential criteria for this role.
- You will have proven experience as a member of a Senior Management Team, demonstrating the ability to lead operational services, manage change, and support the strategic direction of a busy GP practice.
- You will possess a comprehensive understanding of CQC regulations, NHS General Medical Services (GMS) contracts, Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Enhanced Services, Information Governance, GDPR and clinical governance.
- You must have substantial experience of leading quality improvement initiatives, operational audits, risk management, business continuity planning and ensuring continuous regulatory compliance.
- You will have excellent working knowledge of EMIS Web and experience of implementing and optimising digital systems and technologies to improve operational efficiency and patient care.
- You will demonstrate outstanding leadership, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, analyse complex information, solve problems effectively and build positive relationships with clinicians, staff, patients and external stakeholders.
