Job summary

The data analyst will bring analytical and technical skills to inform strategy development and delivery of identified work priorities. Priorities will vary over time, but currently safer staffing reducing restrictive interventions, membership, volunteering, infection prevention and control and patient safety.

The role holder can understand and guide teams to apply a range of methods to analyse data and synthesise findings, from initial receipt and preparation of the data asset through to analysis and interpretation of the data to support presentation

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have expert technical specialist knowledge of information systems, including in depth knowledge of NHS data definitions, clinical terminology, and coding systems. Thisincludes a thorough understanding of the current issues facing the NHS and the role of information in this context.

The postholder will have expert skills in complex data extraction from the Trust's information databases including the use of structured query programming language (SQL) and manipulation of complex data sets from the Business Intelligence warehouse, using skills at an advanced level of expertise.

The postholder will have knowledge of statistical techniques. The post holder will ensure a robust process of validation and reporting in line with defined and agreed timescales.

o The post holder will lead for their area of responsibility in the development and delivery of a suite of timely and accurate performance reports for all levels of the organisation as directed by the Performance Manager. This includes working directly with managers and clinicians to ensure processes are in place to ensure appropriate methods of data capture and information reporting.

o The post holder will present performance information appropriate to the intended audience and proactively support the delivery of targets through targeted action planning and development of improvement trajectories.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to diploma level in a relevant subject or equivalent
Desirable
  • Educated to degree level (Level 5) in a relevant subject or equivalent

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of working within a large complex health or social care organization
  • Excellent SQL data management, interrogation & analysis products
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills with significant experience and proficiency. Significant experience and use of data interpretation and reporting processes.
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Knowledge of data visualisation particularly in Excel and PowerBI
  • Experience of working within performance management
  • Experience of producing and presenting reports to a range of audiences and tailoring communication techniques accordingly to ensure understanding.
