Working arrangements – London, hybrid homeworking (minimum 6 days a month in office).

Introduction

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is recruiting a Research, Data Governance and Technology Manager to support our Research and Development (R&D) function. The role requires the post-holder to be comfortable managing staff, large complex datasets and to work cross-departmentally to support high-quality research, data governance and digital transformation.

Purpose and scope

You will play a key role in delivering the Federation’s R&D priorities, including the creation of research-grade datasets, data analysis and oversee the governance of data used in postgraduate medical education research.

Key responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Lead the transition from traditional data management systems to modern, virtual data environments (e.g. data warehousing).
  • Oversee research and data analysis projects.
  • Manage data governance frameworks, implementing protocols, audits and system improvements.
  • Oversee data lifecycle processes: collection, cleaning, integration, analysis and storage.
  • Provide expert advice on data governance, data management and analytical approaches to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop strategies for managing large and complex datasets in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to research outputs including publications and grant applications.
  • Line manage and support staff to deliver R&D aims and outcomes.
  • Communicate complex concepts or analytical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.

About you

You will bring strong technical expertise and leadership to the role, with the ability to work across teams and with senior stakeholders.

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in a quantitative or research-focused discipline.
  • Strong interest or experience of working in a postgraduate educational or healthcare environment.
  • Strong experience managing research or data analysis projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK data governance legislation.
  • Advanced skills in statistical and data tools (e.g. R, SPSS, SQL, Power BI, Excel).
  • Experience managing and analysing large datasets.
  • Proven experience of line management and delivering project outcomes.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of drafting research grant applications.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience with cloud-based or advanced analytics platforms.
  • Understanding of UK postgraduate medical education or the NHS.
