Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £45,900 per year Contract type: Permanent Hours: 35 per week Location: Remote, UK based

We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Information Security team within the Technology directorate. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supporting IT infrastructure across physical, virtual, and cloud environments, with expertise in server administration, Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, and network/firewall technologies. You'll need to be organised, collaborative, and able to resolve complex technical issues, working both independently and as part of a wider team.

What you'll be doing

• Building, maintaining, and supporting servers, storage, virtual environments, and infrastructure services across the organisation.

• Providing 2nd and 3rd line support for infrastructure-related incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution.

• Administering core infrastructure platforms including Active Directory and Microsoft Azure.

• Managing network and firewall technologies (Cisco, Juniper, SonicWall).

• Maintaining infrastructure documentation, including the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

• Monitoring infrastructure performance and availability, implementing improvements where needed.

• Collaborating with third-party vendors to ensure service quality and value for money.

• Contributing to infrastructure lifecycle planning, upgrades, and transformation initiatives.
• Working closely with colleagues across Technology Operations and other departments.

Experience you'll need to have:

• Relevant IT qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience supporting IT infrastructure (physical, virtual, cloud-based systems).
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, and server administration.
• Experience with network and firewall technologies.
• Ability to manage and resolve complex technical issues.
• Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring, backup, and restoration processes.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
