They are expanding their team and are seeking an experienced Technical Artist to help push visual quality and performance to the next level.

The Role

As a Technical Artist, you will be responsible for ensuring stunning visual quality while maintaining optimal performance in a demanding VR environment. You will collaborate closely with artists, engineers, and designers to develop tools, workflows, shaders, visual effects, and assets that enhance the player experience.

You'll be joining a team of talented artists within a larger multidisciplinary game development group focused on delivering polished, high-performance VR content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve and help define environment art, VFX workflows, tools, and shader pipelines
  • Create polished, performant visual effects for gameplay and UI
  • Develop creative technical solutions for real-time VR rendering challenges
  • Contribute to and maintain custom hand-written HLSL shader systems
  • Create original textures, meshes, sprite sheets, and technical art assets
  • Work with Unity and external tools to identify the best solution for each task
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical, visual, and performance issues
  • Support teammates with technical art challenges and best practices
  • Drive visual quality while maintaining performance targets for VR platforms

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years of professional experience working with Unity
  • 2+ years in a dedicated Technical Artist role
  • Extensive experience creating both 3D and 2D game assets
  • Deep understanding of rendering pipelines, particularly Forward and Built-In Rendering
  • Strong knowledge of mobile and VR optimisation techniques
  • Experience creating custom shaders using hand-written HLSL
  • Advanced Unity expertise including:
  • Animation systems
  • Timelines
  • Particle Systems
  • VFX Graph
  • Nested Prefabs
  • Material Property Blocks

Technical Art Expertise

  • Experience using procedural DCC tools
  • Ability to bake arbitrary data into textures and mesh properties
  • Strong understanding of real-time rendering techniques
  • Proven experience creating interactive visual effects
  • Comfortable balancing artistic vision with technical constraints

Desirable Experience

  • Creating original textures, meshes, sprite sheets, and shaders
  • Experience shipping VR titles
  • Experience developing tools and workflows for artists
  • Strong problem-solving skills within real-time rendering environments
