Senior Management Accountant
Senior Management Accountant – Financial Control & Reporting
Technology services group | London| Qualified (ACA)
The opportunity
An established technology services group is appointing a qualified accountant to take ownership of financial control, reporting and technical accounting across the business.
This is the role the numbers run through. You will own the monthly close and stand behind the results that leadership uses to run the company, drive the balance sheet control agenda, and lead the group and statutory audit through to signed financial statements. Alongside that, you are the in-house technical reference point — the person the business comes to when a transaction is not routine.
It suits someone who wants the discipline of a strong control environment and the visibility that comes with owning the reported position, in a group that is actively modernising its finance systems and processes.
What you will own
Close and management reporting
- Run the monthly, quarterly and year-end close to deadline, delivering management accounts that stand up to scrutiny.
- Review journals, accruals, prepayments and postings for consistency with accounting policy and internal control.
- Own group reporting end to end, translating results into performance analysis and insight that senior stakeholders can act on.
- Work alongside FP&A on variance analysis against budget and forecast, explaining what is genuinely driving the movements.
Balance sheet and financial control
- Own the balance sheet review cycle — reconciliations completed, challenged, evidenced and signed off.
- Investigate and clear reconciling items and accounting queries, improving transparency and governance as you go.
- Maintain a robust internal control framework, including finance policies and delegated authorities.
- Support internal and external audit, monitor financial risk and see corrective actions through to completion.
Technical accounting
- Act as the technical accounting lead for the business.
- Determine and document the accounting treatment for complex, judgemental and non-routine transactions.
- Prepare technical papers and accounting policy guidance.
- Track developments in IFRS, local GAAP and regulatory reporting, and assess what they mean for the group.
Statutory reporting and audit
- Lead preparation of statutory financial statements and coordinate annual reporting across group entities.
- Manage external audit deliverables and lead the technical discussions with the auditors.
- Ensure all statutory filing obligations are met accurately and on time.
Team and continuous improvement
- Manage and develop management accountants and finance analysts, building capability and embedding best practice in financial control.
- Drive standardisation and efficiency in accounting processes, supporting ERP, reporting and wider finance transformation work.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures and supporting documentation.
What good looks like in year one
- Month-end consistently delivered inside group deadlines, with a clean audit trail behind it.
- A credible, costed plan for tightening and shortening the close — and visible progress against it.
- Practical cost and efficiency opportunities identified, quantified and put in front of leadership.
Background we are looking for
- Qualified accountant — ACA - Audit Background Required
- Strong financial control and management accounting grounding, including hands-on ownership of month-end close.
- Track record of managing statutory reporting and external audits.
- Confident working knowledge of IFRS and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strong balance sheet and reconciliation discipline, with a good grasp of internal controls and audit expectations.
- Able to interpret complex technical matters and explain them clearly to a non-technical audience.
- Line management experience.
- Exposure to a large multi-entity or group environment is an advantage.
- Comfortable in a modern cloud ERP with enterprise BI and reporting tooling alongside it.
