Linux Automation Engineer

The role will involve maintaining and enhancing existing automation solutions, supporting business-critical Linux infrastructure, and contributing to the continued evolution of platform engineering capabilities.

You will work across both established and modern technologies, supporting existing platforms while identifying opportunities to improve automation, reliability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and enhance existing automation solutions developed using Perl, Python, Bash, Korn Shell and related Scripting technologies.
  • Support and administer Linux-based production environments, ensuring high levels of availability, stability and reliability.
  • Develop and optimise automation workflows to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
  • Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure, application and network issues across enterprise environments.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, source control and repeatable build and deployment processes using tools such as Git and Jenkins.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations and support teams to investigate incidents, identify root causes and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Support database-backed applications and services, including troubleshooting, maintenance and operational activities.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and identify opportunities to modernise Legacy platforms, tooling and automation.
  • Help improve engineering standards, operational processes and overall platform resilience.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience, ideally with RHEL or similar enterprise Linux distributions.
  • Strong Scripting and automation experience using Perl, Python, Bash and/or Korn Shell.
  • Experience supporting production applications, infrastructure and services within complex environments.
  • Practical knowledge of Git-based development workflows and CI/CD tooling, such as Jenkins.
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals and TCP/IP troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues across multiple technology layers.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within large-scale, regulated or enterprise environments.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with enterprise storage technologies, including NetApp and SAN solutions.
  • Knowledge of authentication technologies such as Kerberos and SPNEGO.
  • Experience with databases including PostgreSQL and SQLite.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, containerisation and modern platform engineering practices.
  • Experience maintaining Legacy applications or automation codebases while contributing to their modernisation.
