IT Apprentice (Smiths Group plc)
The IT Apprentice will work within the Business Information Services function, supporting a wide range of IT services and infrastructure. This role offers hands-on experience across Service Desk operations, hardware/software support, Data & Analytics, Cyber Security and IT project coordination.
Role
Service Desk Support: (IT Operations, Cyber & Data/Analytics)
- Provide technical support to internal users across multiple regions and languages.
- Log, triage, and resolve incidents and service requests using ITSM tools (e.g., BMC Helix).
- Escalate complex issues to second-line support teams.
- Assist in maintaining knowledge base articles and FAQs.
Infrastructure & Applications: (IT Operations, Cyber & Data/Analytics)
- Support hardware provisioning, setup, and troubleshooting (laptops, desktops, mobile devices).
- Assist with software installations, configurations, updates, and license management.
- Participate in routine maintenance tasks such as patching, backups and reporting.
- Help monitor operational performance and report anomalies.
Project Support:
- Contribute to IT projects including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology rollouts.
- Document processes and assist in user training and communications.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to support project delivery.
Training
The opportunity may offer a permanent role upon completion of the apprenticeship depending on availability.
