Overview
This is a great piece of work with a supply chain management consultancy who are building a greenfield data platform from scratch. Following a recent business split, data preparation is currently manual, and spreadsheet driven. The goal is to design a scalable, cloud-based platform to ingest, standardise, and enrich client data, initially for internal use and later as the foundation for client facing products.
This is a hands-on Data Architect role with full ownership of architecture, standards, and core data modelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and own a universal core data model
- Define ingestion patterns for varied client data sources including APIs, file uploads, batch, streaming, and CDC
- Architect scalable ETL pipelines handling hundreds of millions of rows
- Recommend and help select the most appropriate cloud platform and data stack
- Set modelling standards and architectural principles in a fully greenfield environment
- Advise on AI and ML usage for data identification, categorisation, and enrichment
- Ensure alignment with GDPR and ISO requirements
- Support infrastructure as code practices using Terraform
Environment
- Fully greenfield data estate
- Cloud agnostic, with early AWS prototyping
- Client data from highly variable third party sources
- Microsoft 365 for internal operations
- Power BI used in a bespoke, consultant driven manner
Required Experience
- Strong Data Architecture experience on greenfield data platforms
- Enterprise data modelling and large scale data design expertise
- Modern ETL and data ingestion architecture experience
- Cloud architecture experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform
- Comfortable operating autonomously and hands on
