Platform Engineer
Salary: £61,000–£83,000
Location: Hybrid/London or Cheltenham
Clearance: SC or higher
We are looking for an SC-Cleared Platform Engineer to join a growing, values-led technology consultancy delivering secure, scalable and mission-critical digital solutions across the UK public sector
.
You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary delivery teams to design, build and operate modern platform and infrastructure solutions across cloud and on-premise environments. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, improving developer experience, and embedding security, reliability and automation into everything they deliver.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and implement secure, reliable and scalable platform solutions across cloud and on-premise environments
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, understanding client needs, business objectives and operational constraints.
- Lead or contribute to the architecture of robust systems, embedding network and cyber security best practice.
- Work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, assess feasibility and recommend pragmatic technical solutions.
- Build and improve internal developer platforms with a focus on reliability, adoption and user experience.
- Collaborate with project managers and delivery teams to support successful delivery against agreed timelines and budgets.
- Keep up to date with emerging platform, cloud and DevOps technologies, sharing knowledge across teams.
- Support technical discussions, presentations and client engagements, clearly articulating platform approaches and value.
Required skills
- 5+ years’ experience in a Platform, DevOps, Cloud or Site Reliability Engineering role.
- Strong experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Production experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation or Bicep.
- Experience designing, operating and evolving cloud and on-premise solutions in production environments.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including VPCs, security groups, NAT gateways, VPNs and hybrid connectivity.
- Experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, software engineering principles and deployment automation.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of observability, including logging, monitoring, alerting and operational dashboards.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
