Forward Deployed Engineer
Forward Deployed Data Engineer
(Enterprise Platform / AI-Enabled Systems)
Salary: £45,000 – £75,000 (DOE)
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
The Opportunity
We’re partnering with a fast-growing B2B SaaS company building an advanced enterprise data and AI platform used by large, global organisations.
They’re hiring a Forward Deployed Data Engineer — a hands-on, customer-facing role for engineers who enjoy solving real business problems and seeing their work live in production.
This is not a traditional “support” role. You’ll act as an extension of the product and engineering team, working directly with customers to adapt and deploy the platform in high-impact environments.
If you enjoy ownership, context, and variety — and don’t want to spend your career just building internal pipelines — this role offers something different.
What You’ll Be Doing (In Practice)
- Work directly with enterprise customers to deploy and adapt the platform in production
- Take loosely defined business problems and turn them into working data solutions
- Configure and extend the platform to fit different customer contexts and priorities
- Design and implement AI-enabled workflows that support decision-making and automation
- Build and maintain data integrations using Python, PySpark, SQL, and distributed systems
- Partner with customers to define success metrics and ensure solutions deliver real outcomes
- Feed learnings from the field back into the product and engineering teams
You’ll be trusted with meaningful responsibility, but supported by experienced engineers and
product leaders.
What They’re Looking For
- 2–4+ years’ experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or similar roles
- Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and evolving priorities
- Strong fundamentals in Python, SQL, and working with large or complex datasets
- The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- A mindset oriented around ownership, problem-solving, and outcomes
Experience in startups, scale-ups, or consultancies is helpful — but not required.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience with tools like Databricks, dbt, Airflow, or similar platforms
- Some exposure to API development or backend systems
- Experience integrating enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, operational platforms)
- Familiarity with dashboards or data visualisation tools
- Exposure to AI-enabled workflows or automation
If you don’t tick every box, that’s okay — they’re more interested in how you think than what tools you’ve used.
Why This Role Appeals to Engineers
- High ownership and visible impact — your work goes live with real customers
- Variety: each deployment brings new challenges and learning
- Close collaboration with product, engineering, and senior customer stakeholders
- Strong exposure to enterprise-scale data and AI use cases
- Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and clear progression opportunities
- Hybrid working, modern London office, and a mission-driven culture
