Job Title: Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Bio/AI)

Location: Near London (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)

Salary: £95,000 – £150,000

The Role

They are hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to take ownership of their ML strategy and help scale the company’s modelling and data capabilities. This role sits at the core of the business - bridging research, engineering, and product - and will play a key part in shaping how machine learning is applied across their discovery pipeline.

You’ll be expected to lead from the front: setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and building production-grade ML systems that integrate closely with biological research workflows.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the design and development of machine learning models applied to biological datasets (e.g. genomics, multimodal omics, protein data)
• Define and implement scalable ML architecture and best practices across the team
• Work closely with scientists and leadership to translate research problems into ML solutions
• Drive the transition from research prototypes to robust, production-ready systems
• Mentor and support junior ML engineers and contribute to hiring efforts
• Help shape the long-term ML roadmap and technical strategy

What They’re Looking For

• 6+ years experience in machine learning / AI engineering roles
• Proven track record of deploying ML models into production environments
• Strong Python skills and deep experience with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Experience working with complex, high-dimensional datasets (biological data strongly preferred)
• Solid understanding of modern ML approaches (deep learning, representation learning, etc.)
• Experience leading projects or mentoring engineers in a team environment

Nice to Have

• Background in bioinformatics, computational biology, or life sciences
• Experience with drug discovery, protein modelling, or genomics pipelines
• Familiarity with MLOps, CI/CD, and scalable cloud infrastructure
• Exposure to graph-based models, transformers, or multimodal learning
• Experience in an early-stage startup or fast-scaling environment
