IT 3rd Line Support Engineer – Up to £550pd (Inside IR35) – 12 Months – Bedford

Overview

This is not a typical 3rd Line role. Our Defence client has a highly complex mix of IT and OT systems with decades of underinvestment, technical debt and unique operational technology.

They need a hands-on engineer who thrives on deep troubleshooting, improving systems, and acting as a technical role model.

The Role

You'll work across a wide range of technologies, stabilising systems, driving improvements and providing senior-level guidance on what "good" looks like. Expect complex integrations, unusual devices, and a chance to genuinely shape the IT environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Senior-level troubleshooting across IT & OT
• Act as a technical role model to uplift capability
• Stabilise legacy infrastructure and drive improvement plans
• Work across VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto and Barracuda technologies
• Support a range of unique operational systems and devices
• Blend BAU incident resolution with project-based modernisation work

Essential Experience:

• VMware
• Cisco networking
• Palo Alto firewalls
• Barracuda technologies
• Strong troubleshooting mindset
• Able to lead by example and set technical standards

Contract Details:

• Up to £550pd (Inside IR35)
• 12-month contract
• Onsite in Bedford
• Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance
