SR2 is supporting a central government programme that’s delivering a federated data-sharing solution across multiple departments. We’re looking for two experienced Distributed Systems Engineers to assess, enhance, and implement secure data exchange capabilities within a complex cross-organisational environment.
This is a high-impact, Outside IR35 role for engineers confident working with large-scale messaging systems and secure information sharing.
Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the current data federation architecture and propose areas for technical improvement
• Design and implement a scalable, secure federated data-sharing solution across government teams
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders to test and deploy distributed data solutions
• Contribute to system architecture, performance tuning, and delivery planning

Tech Stack & Skills Required:

• Apache Kafka – implementation, optimisation, distributed messaging
• Java – enterprise-grade service development
• Python – scripting, integration, and automation workflows
• Understanding of secure data flows and distributed information systems

• 2x positions available
• £600-625/day (Outside IR35)
• Start date: ASAP
• Contract duration: 6 months+
• Remote
