Test Engineer | Automation | Public Sector | Contract

SR2 is supporting a consultancy partner delivering services into the public sector, and we're looking for an experienced Test Engineer to support the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and secure digital services.

The role will suit someone with a strong automation-first mindset, comfortable working across browser, API, accessibility, and security testing within a modern delivery environment.

The Role
You'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automated test coverage across multiple devices and platforms, ensuring services meet functional, non-functional, accessibility, and security standards expected of government-facing systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and maintaining automated browser-based test suites
• Executing cross-device and cross-browser testing
• Validating RESTful APIs and data integrity
• Embedding accessibility and security testing into the test approach
• Working closely with developers and delivery teams within an agile environment
• Contributing to quality assurance best practice across the programme

Essential

• Cross-device testing using BrowserStack
• Strong automation experience using Selenium
• Programming experience with Ruby
• BDD experience using Cucumber/Gherkin
• Accessibility testing using tools such as WAVE and pa11y
• Security testing experience with OWASP ZAP and/or Dependency Check
• Experience using browser developer tools including Lighthouse and JavaScript debug consoles
• API testing experience using Postman or Newman with RESTful APIs
• Strong version control experience using Git, GitHub, or GitLab

Desirable

• Performance testing experience using JMeter or BlazeMeter
• Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and assuring compliance with design patterns
• Experience configuring or working with CI/CD pipelines to execute automated tests
