DevOps Engineer | Defence Systems | Contract

Location: Wiltshire, hybrid (1-2 days a week on site)
Rate: £550 - 600 per day, Inside IR35
Start: ASAP
Duration: 6 months
Clearance: Active SC Clearance or higher

The role
This is a hands-on role in a mainly on-premises environment. The focus is automation: building out Dev, Test and Live environments, and the CI/CD pipelines that move software safely between them within a secure, controlled estate.

• Design and build Dev, Test and Live environments
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in on-prem GitLab
• Automate provisioning and configuration with Terraform and Ansible
• Run containerised workloads on Docker and Kubernetes
• Build DevSecOps practices in from the start: secure configuration, scanning, vulnerability, access and secrets management
• Set up monitoring, logging and alerting
• Troubleshoot deployments and support rollback, recovery and disaster recovery
• Produce the documentation and assurance evidence that secure delivery needs

What you'll bring

• DevOps or platform engineering experience in defence, aerospace, government or another secure sector
• Strong on-premises infrastructure experience (this role is mainly on-prem, so a purely cloud background won't suit)
• A solid understanding of the security requirements that come with secure environments
• A track record of building CI/CD pipelines and multi-environment setups, ideally in GitLab
• Terraform, Ansible, Docker and Kubernetes
• Scripting in Bash, Python or PowerShell
• Comfort working to governance and change control
• Clear, concise communication
