AWS Platform Engineer - Inside IR35 - Investment Banking
Data Platform Engineer
City of London (Hybrid - 3 days on-site) | Contract | £700/day, Inside IR35
A well-established Japanese investment bank operating in capital markets is looking for an AWS Platform Engineer to join its cloud transformation programme. This is a build-and-run role for someone who's spent their career on AWS infrastructure and automation, and who's comfortable operating the data pipelines that sit on top of it.
You'll be joining the Applications team, owning the AWS platform that data pipelines and integration flows run on - provisioning and maintaining infrastructure through Terraform, building out CI/CD, and keeping things reliable through monitoring and alerting. You don't need to be a data engineer; you do need to have worked hands-on with AWS-native data services (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge) as part of a platform role, and be ready to work closely with the architecture team while mentoring internal engineers to take the platform on long-term.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provisioning and maintaining AWS infrastructure using Terraform as the primary IaC tool
- Building and running CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI)
- Operating data pipelines and integration flows built on Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, and EventBridge
- Working with containerised/compute platforms - Amazon EKS and EC2
- Monitoring, alerting, and performance optimisation via CloudWatch
- Supporting production stability - issue resolution and continuous improvement of operational practices
- Mentoring and upskilling internal engineers to embed sustainable, long-term ownership
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 5 years' hands-on AWS engineering experience, with a genuine platform/infrastructure focus
- Strong, proven experience with Terraform as primary infrastructure-as-code tool
- Hands-on experience operating data pipelines on AWS (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3, Athena)
- Experience with EKS and EC2, and CI/CD tooling
- Comfortable owning production reliability - monitoring, alerting, incident response
Desirable
- Python (nice-to-have, not required)
- Messaging/streaming experience (Kinesis, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ)
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer, Data Engineer)
- Financial services / capital markets background
