Project Accountant – Luxury Retail (Fixed Assets & SAP S/4HANA)

Role Overview

This luxury retail group is seeking a Project Accountant to take ownership of a large-scale fixed asset clean-up programme. With approximately 115 legacy CAPEX projects sitting open in SAP S/4HANA, the successful candidate will lead the investigation, reconciliation, and closure of historic projects to ensure the Fixed Asset Register is accurate, complete, and fully audit-ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, cleanse, and restructure the Fixed Asset Register to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with audit requirements.
• Analyse around 115 legacy projects in SAP S/4HANA, identifying mispostings, incomplete data, incorrect classifications, and projects requiring capitalisation or closure.
• Use advanced SAP S/4HANA functionality to trace transactions, reconcile balances, validate project statuses, and correct errors.
• Prepare schedules, documentation, and reconciliations to ensure the Fixed Asset Register and CAPEX reporting withstand external audit scrutiny.
• Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and finance colleagues to gather missing information and validate project outcomes.
• Recommend and implement improved controls around project creation, capitalisation, depreciation, and closure.
• Produce clear summaries of findings, risks, and progress for senior finance leadership.

Required Experience & Skills

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
• SAP S/4HANA expertise is essential, particularly in project accounting, fixed assets, and CAPEX modules.
• Strong technical understanding of IAS 16, fixed asset accounting, capitalisation rules, depreciation, and project close-out.
• Proven experience cleaning, rebuilding, or auditing a Fixed Asset Register.
• Ability to analyse large volumes of historic data and resolve discrepancies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with non-finance stakeholders.
• Highly organised, methodical, and persistent in resolving issues.
