Business Administration Apprentice

Join us as a Business Admin Apprentice, with real client contact, modern digital systems, and room to grow into business admin, office management, finance, marketing or accountancy, whichever suits you.

You don't need to know your path yet.  We're a fast-growing, highly digital accountancy practice in Southport.

Role

  • Assist with client administration, including chasing missing information, signed documents and tax checklist submissions.
  • Manage client documents through our digital systems, we're a paperless practice, though there's sometimes temporary scanning work as we digitise records from firms we've acquired.  You'll also help retain and organise closed client files, developing knowledge of office procedures, confidentiality and compliance within a professional accountancy practice.
  • Help us build and improve our processes as we grow, from small tweaks to bigger changes, a great fit if you're naturally organised.
  • Get involved in marketing, we're currently rebuilding our website and social media and growing our client communications.
  • Provide a welcoming reception service, answering calls, greeting clients, and managing appointments and diaries.
  • Support the general running of the office, from ordering supplies and preparing meeting rooms to handling post and couriers.
  • Keep on top of office email inboxes and pass on enquiries to the right team member.

Desired skills

  • Comfortable talking to people face to face and on the phone.
  • Confident picking up new software and systems quickly, we run entirely digitally.
  • Able to write clearly for client emails.

No previous office or accountancy experience required, we'll teach you the technical side.  Don't worry if you haven't done much of this before, what matters is that it's something you'd enjoy doing.

Desired personal qualities

Reliable, organised, a team player who's happy asking questions.  Trustworthy and discreet, you'll be handling clients' financial and personal information.  Proactive, comfortable chasing someone for a missing document.  Calm under pressure, clients sometimes get in touch anxious about tax or HMRC deadlines.  If you can be halfway through one task, get pulled onto something else, and pick the first one back up without losing your place, that's useful here, we're a busy office with plenty going on at once.

Training

Business Administrator Level 3.

Throughout the programme, apprentices will develop key workplace skills including IT, communication, record keeping, decision-making, planning and organisation, project management, and interpersonal skills. They will also build professional behaviours such as adaptability, responsibility, and professionalism.

Training is delivered primarily in the workplace by an assessor, with  off-the-job learning during contracted hours. The apprenticeship concludes with an End Point Assessment (EPA), comprising an online multiple-choice test, a portfolio-based interview, and a project or improvement process presentation.

Off-the-job training will follow the time allocations outlined in the Occupational Standard.

Where this leads is your choice. Many of our current team started here as apprentices and have built long-term careers with us, including senior management and practice manager roles.

Others have qualified as chartered accountants, become tax specialists, moved into industry, or joined Top 10 firms and large international companies, and there's room to get involved with marketing too, that's a live project right now.

Whether you stay long-term or use this as a stepping stone to somewhere else, that's fine by us.

About the Employer

STUBBS PARKIN LIMITED
Stubbs Parkin is an accountancy practice in Southport town centre, friendly in person and fully digital. We work across accounts, tax, payroll, bookkeeping and business advice with a team of 15 people, and clients can walk into our office and speak to someone face to face. Behind that, we use modern systems and AI to keep things running smoothly. Good systems matter to us because they mean clients get the same standard of service every time, and how people feel after dealing with us matters just as much as the quality of work we produce, that's why we created this role. We've grown quickly recently through a number of mergers, and we've been training apprentices for a long time, many of whom have built great careers, here and elsewhere.
