This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Controls Engineer, PLC Engineer or Commissioning Engineer who wants to strengthen their PLC software skills and develop into a more programming-led position.
You will initially gain hands-on experience working with live machinery and existing control systems, supported by an experienced engineering team. As your knowledge develops, you will progress into more advanced PLC programming, software design and project responsibility.
There’s a wide salary range on offer – for higher end/top of the range, the expectation level on what skills the successful candidate has will be higher – obviously!
Key aspects of the Junior PLC Software Engineer role include:
- Supporting the commissioning and development of automated machinery
- Understanding, modifying and improving existing PLC software
- Fault-finding across PLC-controlled machinery and electrical control systems
- Working between the engineering office, shop floor and customer sites
- Supporting installation and commissioning projects in the UK and overseas
- Working directly with customers during commissioning and handover
- Progressing into more advanced PLC programming and software development
During the first six months, the role will have a strong commissioning focus. This will provide practical knowledge of the machinery, control systems and PLC software before the position develops into a more programming-led role.
The successful Junior PLC Software Engineer is likely to have:
- Some experience of PLC programming, controls engineering or commissioning
- Approximately one to four years' industrial experience, although ability and attitude are more important
- Experience with Mitsubishi or Omron PLCs would be particularly useful
- Siemens, Rockwell or other PLC experience will also be considered
- Electrical fault-finding or hands-on machinery experience
- A practical approach and willingness to learn
- The flexibility to travel to customer sites when required
Travel and working pattern:
- Based in West Yorkshire approximately 80% of the time
- Around 20% UK and international travel
- Overseas trips typically last approximately two weeks
- Previous destinations have included the United States and South Africa
- Overtime and travel time are paid
Package:
- £32-45k basic salary
- 10% annual bonus
- Paid overtime
- Paid travel time
- Structured development and support
- Clear progression into a more senior PLC software engineering role
This position is specifically focused on industrial automation and PLC software rather than IT, web development or computer science.
If you are a Junior Controls Engineer, PLC Engineer or Commissioning Engineer looking to develop stronger PLC programming skills, please send me your CV for consideration.
