SC Cleared Service Designer - Remote - £540/day Inside IR35

We are seeking an experienced Service Designer with active SC clearance to support a Central Government department on a major digital programme. This role is ideal for someone with strong service design expertise, experience shaping end-to-end user journeys, and working within GDS standards and frameworks.

The Role

You will play a key role in designing and improving digital services that are effective, usable, and accessible. Collaborating closely with user researchers, interaction designers, delivery teams, and stakeholders, you will help embed user-centred design principles across programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mapping and designing end-to-end service journeys, including touchpoints across digital and non-digital channels

  • Creating service blueprints, personas, and experience maps to inform design and decision-making

  • Collaborating with delivery teams to embed user-centred design principles in service development

  • Advising on best practices in service design and supporting continuous improvement

  • Ensuring services meet accessibility, inclusivity, and regulatory standards

  • Integrating research insights into design solutions and iterating based on user feedback

  • Communicating design decisions and rationale to stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams

  • Ensuring alignment with GDS standards and government service design principles

About You

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Service Designer or in a similar user-centred design role

  • Active SC clearance

  • Strong expertise in designing end-to-end services and user journeys

  • Experience creating personas, service blueprints, and experience maps

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills

  • Experience in regulated or government environments

  • Familiarity with GDS standards and digital service frameworks

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with design systems or multidisciplinary teams

  • Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design standards

  • Familiarity with interaction design, UX, or digital transformation programmes

  • Relevant certifications in UX, service design, or human-centred design
