Senior Java Developer - Digital & Public ServicesA growing digital consultancy delivering complex, high-impact services into the public sector is looking for a Senior Java Developer to join its engineering capability.This is an opportunity to work on meaningful projects, contributing to the development of scalable, secure software solutions while influencing engineering best practice across multidisciplinary teams.Please note: Due to the nature of the work, candidates must either hold current SC Clearance or be eligible to obtain SC Clearance .The RoleAs a Senior Java Developer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and deployment of modern digital services. You will work on complex systems, contribute to architectural decisions, and support the wider engineering team through mentorship and technical leadership.You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, DevOps, and QA to deliver high-quality solutions aligned to user and business needs.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelopment & EngineeringDesign, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software solutionsDevelop modern applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecturesContribute to architectural decisions and ensure alignment with overall system designTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issuesQuality & Best PracticeWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeImplement and improve CI/CD pipelines to improve delivery efficiencyConduct code reviews and promote high standards of software qualityEnsure strong test coverage and adherence to secure-by-design principlesCollaboration & DeliveryWork within agile delivery teams across the full software lifecycleCollaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to meet delivery goalsContribute to technical discussions early in the project lifecycleCommunicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersLeadership & MentorshipMentor and support junior engineers, helping to develop capability within the teamChampion best practices in software development and continuous improvementContribute to enhancing engineering standards, tooling, and processesContinuous ImprovementStay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trendsIdentify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and toolingSupport adoption of modern engineering practices and approachesAbout YouEssential ExperienceStrong experience across the full software development lifecycleSignificant hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservicesExperience working in agile environments with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelinesKnowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCPFamiliarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) or serverless architecturesExperience with automated testing frameworks and modern development practicesUnderstanding of software architecture patterns and secure design principlesStrong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholdersDesirableExperience operating at a senior level within engineering teamsExposure to consulting or client-facing environmentsExperience delivering within government or public sector settingsProficiency across additional programming languagesKey SkillsWriting high-quality, scalable, and maintainable codeDriving code quality through testing, reviews, and standardsWorking effectively in cross-functional teamsCommunicating complex technical concepts clearlyMentoring and developing other engineersContinuous improvement mindset and adoption of new technologiesIf you're looking to work on impactful digital services in complex environments-while having the opportunity to influence how modern engineering is delivered-this role offers both challenge and purpose.Reasonable Adjustments:Respect and equality are core values to us.
