Job Title: DevOps Engineer

Location: Bridgend / Hybrid Working 3 days per week onsite

Salary: £60,000 + benefits

Fantastic new permanent opportunity for an experienced DevOps Engineer with this market leading specialist financial services business based in Bridgend. My client is a leading global business who are growing and expanding their operations in Bridgend and as part of that growth are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join the team.

As a DevOps Engineer you will play a significant part in the software delivery process for all international applications. The DevOps Engineer will support specific activities to improve development processes and the optimisation of releases procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, deploy and configure .Net Applications and other Web Applications.
  • Use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to manage databases, permissions backups and deploying SQL scripts.
  • Deploy changes across environments following a structured approach e.g. via DEV, TEST and then to PRD depending on sign-off and approval, as per the Release Notes provided.
  • Set up and manage servers via virtualization software such as VMWare, including tuning and performance monitoring.
  • Install and configure bespoke off-the-shelf applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft BizTalk and Dynamic CRM, Pega.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures/documentation for deployments and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to and maintain environment standards. Ownership of all environment documentation, ensuring change control is applied and all versions are current. Identification of technical documentation gaps the remediation of such gaps.
  • Ensure adherence to the existing Change Management Policy.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Use Windows Active Directory to administer user permissions, managing/creating service accounts and group membership.
  • Assist with out of hours deployments where required.
  • Identify automation opportunities with regular, frequent maintenance activities, such as deployments and refreshes.
  • Work closely with other Product Engineering, QE, Platform and Support engineers to develop efficient and effective CI/CD pipelines and processes.
  • Develop policies, standards, guidelines, governance and related guidance for both CI/CD operations and for Software Engineers, including relevant training.
  • Create and maintain fully automated CI build processes for multiple environments used by multiple applications and components.

Skills and Experience required

  • Proven experience working with application deployment/configuration.
  • Background in software development, testing, or support.
  • Proven ability in troubleshooting environment and application issues.
  • Proven experience working with and managing stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience creating and maintaining build and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with automation.
  • Windows Server.
  • SQL Server Management Studio.
  • IIS and Apache Tomcat (Web services).
  • Virtualisation software.
  • Package management tools like CloudSmith or JFrog Artifactory.
  • Container management e.g., minikube, docker or Kubernetes.
  • CICD process with ideally with SAST and SCA code analysis.
  • DevOps tools: Git repo, Azure DevOps, Azure, GitHub, GitHub Actions, AWS CI/CD tools, TeamCity, OctopusDeploy, Terraform, Ansible.
  • Azure and AWS fundamentals.
