DevOps and Automation Engineer

Job Role: DevOps and Automation Engineer Location: Hybrid - London (or as agreed)Contract: 12 months, Outside IR35

We are seeking a senior, hands-on DevOps and Automation Engineer to join the Enterprise Change / Project team. This strategic, long-term contractor role supports Enterprise Change initiatives, product demand, and platform/process improvements, providing dedicated DevOps capability where gaps historically existed.

• Deliver DevOps and automation capability across Enterprise Change initiatives.

• Improve deployment, release, automation, and infrastructure processes.

• Act as a senior, hands-on engineer who can operate independently.

• Support the organisation's evolution toward AI-driven automation and Agentic AI, learning and applying these on the job.

• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines.

• Automate and improve deployment and release processes.

• Support hybrid infrastructure, including on-prem (majority) and AWS cloud platforms.

• Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and Ansible.

• Collaborate with Delivery Managers, Product Owners, project teams, and DevOps leadership.

• Contribute to platform enhancements, process improvements, and automation initiatives during quieter periods.

• Drive agentic-first automation, reusable end-to-end automation, and Automation-as-a-Service (AaaS).

• Maintain and support AI/automation solutions in production

• Embed security and compliance by design across automation and deployments.

• Exposure to ephemeral environments and automation concepts.

• Support and upskill in Agentic AI / AI-driven automation initiatives.

• AI/automation will increasingly form part of the workload, though the role is not purely AI-focused.

• Senior-level DevOps contractor with broad, traditional DevOps skills (not cloud-only).

• Experience across Windows & Linux servers, on-prem infrastructure, AWS cloud, and hybrid/multi-cloud setups.

• Comfortable with automation-first thinking, CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and enterprise-scale change.

• True DevOps generalist with an automation and AI mindset.
