Infrastructure Linux Engineer

Overview

We're looking for an experienced Linux Infrastructure Engineer / Linux SME to provide specialist support across enterprise Linux platforms operating within a secure and assured infrastructure environment.

The role combines traditional Linux platform administration with more modern infrastructure and development practices. You'll be responsible for maintaining stable, secure and performant Linux environments while also supporting development environments, containerisation and greater use of automation across the infrastructure.

You'll work alongside other infrastructure specialists to resolve complex technical issues, improve existing platforms and help shape how the Linux environment develops and grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide SME-level support across enterprise Linux platforms
  • Maintain the stability, performance and security of Linux-based infrastructure
  • Diagnose and resolve complex Linux infrastructure incidents and technical issues
  • Support ongoing platform improvements and infrastructure development
  • Build, configure and maintain Linux development environments
  • Support Linux-based development activities alongside traditional platform operations
  • Containerise applications and services where appropriate
  • Support modern deployment approaches across the environment
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure through automation
  • Lead and contribute to technical discussions around the development and growth of the Linux environment
  • Work collaboratively with infrastructure, development and operational specialists
  • Operate within formal service management and security frameworks
  • Maintain accurate and robust technical and operational documentation

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on Linux administration and infrastructure engineering experience
  • Significant experience supporting enterprise Linux environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across complex Linux-based infrastructure
  • Experience maintaining secure, stable and highly available environments
  • Experience building and maintaining Linux development environments
  • Practical experience with containerisation of applications and services
  • Experience using automation to improve infrastructure management and deployment
  • Understanding of modern deployment approaches alongside traditional infrastructure operations
  • Experience operating within formal IT service management processes
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure security and working within controlled environments
  • Ability to operate as a Linux SME and provide technical direction to other teams
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Active SC clearance
