Staff Engineer - React/Node
Sanderson are working with a leading financial services organisation that places customers at the centre of its digital strategy. The organisation is continuing to invest heavily in its Digital Experience Platform, creating an exciting opportunity for a Staff Engineer to take on a senior technical leadership role within a growing technology function.
As a Staff Engineer, you will operate at a senior technical leadership level, working across multiple squads to shape architecture, raise engineering standards, and drive the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-performing digital solutions. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic influence, acting as a technical authority and escalation point across the value stream.

- Salary: Up to £84,000

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across multiple squads, supporting the delivery of complex, cross-cutting initiatives.
- Act as the final technical escalation point, tackling the most complex, high-risk, or ambiguous engineering challenges.
- Apply a strategic, end-to-end view across the platform while remaining hands-on through coding, prototyping, and solution validation.
- Define, own, and present technical solutions in collaboration with architects and senior technical stakeholders.
- Drive architectural alignment and adoption of modern patterns, including Micro Frontends (MFE) and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) approaches.
- Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements including security, performance, scalability, and operability.
- Lead improvements to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, engineering quality, and secure delivery practices.
- Mentor and coach engineers, raising the technical bar and promoting engineering best practices across squads.
- Work closely with product, delivery, and technical leadership to shape the technical roadmap and support planning cycles.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience operating at Senior Tech Lead or Staff Engineer level, supporting multiple squads simultaneously.
- Strong hands-on background with React, Node, and NestJS, with the ability to actively code and prototype.
- Deep architectural understanding, particularly across Micro Frontend (MFE) and BFF architectures.
- Experience designing and operating scalable, cloud-native systems.
- Comfortable influencing technical direction and outcomes without direct line management authority.
- Clear and confident communicator, able to explain complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proactive, self-driven mindset with the ability to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities independently.
