Lecturer in Computing

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Lecturer in Computing to join the Computing department at Sandwell College.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or industry professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of digital and technology professionals within the further education sector. You will play a key role in delivering engaging and high-quality teaching across Computing programmes, supporting learners to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required for progression into higher education and employment within the digital industry.

Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the continued development and growth of the Computing provision, ensuring learners receive an outstanding educational experience that supports achievement, progression and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Computing programmes. 
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with curriculum requirements and awarding body standards. 
  • Undertake course leadership and personal tutor responsibilities, supporting learners academically and pastorally. 
  • Develop innovative learning and assessment materials using Information Learning Technology (ILT) and multimedia resources. 
  • Work collaboratively with course teams to ensure consistently high standards of teaching and learning. 
  • Liaise effectively with colleagues, employers, external agencies and industry partners to support learner progression and employability. 
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification in Computing or a related subject. 
  • A teaching qualification such as a Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification. 
  • Experience delivering high-quality teaching and learning within a further education or vocational setting. 
  • Experience delivering BTEC Computing qualifications, including Next Generation specifications. 
  • Experience of curriculum development and creating engaging learning resources. 
  • Knowledge and experience of internal verification and standards verification processes. 
  • Industry experience within the Computing or digital sector would be advantageous. 
  • Knowledge of achievement rates and the relationship between performance, inspection and funding. 

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) 
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:

  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) 
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
