Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity within the Site Management Team for a Band 6 Capacity Manager to join the team. The role gives an indepth insight into patient flow, safety with change and innovation as we move towards the opening of the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.You will be working cross sites to manage the capacity on the site and maintain excellent patient flow by working closely with clinical teams,supporting services and external partners
Interested candidates must have current and measurable experience working within an Acute Trust; knowledge of Patient Administration Systemand NHS experience. They must also meet the essential qualification criteria for the role with GCSE English or equivalentGrade C or above; a degree or equivalent experience in management and significant management experience of corporate processes, drivingchange in clinical pathways.
Main duties of the job
The post holders main responsibilities include being familiar with all aspects of Patient Flow/Capacity Management processes operating within in the Trust; ensuring that site safety and discharge meetings/forums are coordinated and managed within agreed guidelines. This will includecollating reports and working with Divisions and Consultants to meet the targets/Trust standards.To ensure that patients identified for discharge by clinical teams are actually discharged as soon as possible by providing guidance and advice; Toliaise with clinical teams to agree plans to support the delivery of capacity to accommodate demand of each clinical specialty.The post holder must have a comprehensive understanding of National agenda, ensuring internal and external processes support the local andnational agenda's and monitor the process of complex discharges against the Trust Quality Indicators and local and national targets.

Job responsibilities
- To be familiar with all aspects of Patient Flow/Bed Management processes operating within in the Trust. To ensure that site safety and discharge meetings/forums are coordinated and managed within agreed guidelines. This willinclude collating reports and working with Divisions and Consultants to meet the targets/Trust standards. To ensure that patients identified for discharge by clinical teams are actually discharged as soon as possible by providing guidance andadvice. . To liaise with clinical teams to agree plans to support the delivery of capacity to accommodate demand of each clinical specialty. To maintain the necessary database sets held for Patient Flow and participate in local audit activity To lead on defined aspects of Patient Flow projects and work to ensure to achieve pre-agreed deadlines and targets. To ensure that a minimum number or zero patients are undated before breaching specialty targets. Work closely with the IT Department on CapMan weekly discharge reports and any other key performance indicators included in thedashboard for capacity management. Prepare and distribute relevant information to Wards areas /Directorates for performance analysis and review. Have a comprehensive understanding of National agenda, ensuring internal and external processes support the local and nationalagendas. Ensure appropriate training is provided for all staff directly or indirectly involved in patient flow and where necessary carry out trainingfor staff. Identify and update continuous improvement of site safety/capacity/patient flow plans with the aim to enhance efficiency and minimal risk to allprocedures.
- Update existing Standard Operating Procedures where necessary and introduce new Standard Operating Procedures tosupport the efficient running of Outpatient services. Liaise with Divisions/Directorates to ensure best use of clinic capacity, monitoring and utilisation is actualise
Person Specification
Experience
- oDemonstrable experience of working within an Acute Trust.
- oKnowledge of working with Electronic Patient Systems
- oDemonstratable NHS experience
- oKnowledge of complex discharge processes.
- oKnowledge of legal requirements.
Qualifications
- oGCE/GCSE English or equivalent, Grade C or above.
- oDegree or equivalent in management
- oDemonstrable experience of corporate processes driving change in clinical pathways
Knowledge
- oKnowledge of Patient Flow policies/targets/initiatives.
- oA specific understanding of the confidential nature of the work in hand.
- oIT Literate and experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Management/Supervision/Coordination skills
- oExcellent organisational skills
- oTo co-ordinate your own work flow and to assist with the co-ordination of workflows for temporary/new members of staff.
- oAbility to maintain complete and accurate record systems/databases.
Written skills
- oTo be proficient in reading and writing
- oTo be able to write clear, concise messages involving complex medical terminology
- oTo be able to produce complex reports, analysing data and produce operational guidelines
Communication
- oTo be able to communicate with all levels of personnel including medical professionals, patients and outside agencies.
- oFrequent oFace to face contact with patients, Divisional Managers, Consultants, Theatre and Ward staff and secretaries. oTelephone contact (as above) oE-mail oInternal and external meetings
