EC&I Engineer – Nuclear Plant Support Lancaster | Full-Time On-Site | Inside IR35 | Long-term Contract | Immediate Start The Opportunity

We're recruiting an EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) Engineer to provide technical support on nuclear plant systems in Lancaster. You'll work full-time on-site, five days a week, supporting the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of EC&I systems across safety-related and non-safety critical equipment.

This is hands-on technical work. You'll diagnose plant issues, specify and review design changes, support maintenance strategies, and conduct system assessments. Your expertise in EC&I systems directly impacts plant reliability and operational performance.

What You'll Be Doing

Plant-Facing EC&I Support

• Provide engineering support for electrical, control, and instrumentation systems
• Support both safety-related and non-safety critical systems
• Diagnose and resolve plant faults, abnormal events, and equipment degradation issues
• Undertake plant walk-downs, inspections, and system health assessments
• Identify issues early and support rapid resolution

Design & Technical Review

• Specify, review, and approve EC&I designs, modifications, and upgrades
• Ensure all changes comply with nuclear standards and best practice
• Support engineering justification and technical documentation
• Work within established design controls and change management processes

Maintenance & System Strategy

• Support and review maintenance strategies (preventive, corrective, condition-based)
• Contribute to condition monitoring and predictive maintenance activities
• Work with maintenance teams on system optimization
• Support continuous improvement in EC&I reliability

About You

Essential Experience

• Minimum 5+ years EC&I or control systems engineering experience
• MUST HAVE: Nuclear industry background - proven experience in nuclear plant operations, maintenance, or engineering support
• Ideally EDF SQEP status or equivalent demonstrated competency in nuclear EC&I systems
• Expert-level knowledge of:
  • Electrical systems and switchgear
  • Control systems and automation
  • Instrumentation and measurement systems
  • Safety-related systems and integrity
  • Nuclear design standards and best practice
• Proven ability to:
  • Diagnose complex plant issues
  • Specify and review technical designs
  • Work effectively with plant operations and maintenance teams
  • Work independently on technical assessments
  • Support both safety-critical and operational systems
• Professional qualifications such as CEng or IEng (Desirable)

The Role in Practice

You'll be based on-site at Heysham, working five days a week as part of the plant support team. You'll spend time in the control room, plant areas, and engineering office - conducting assessments, reviewing designs, supporting maintenance activities, and resolving technical issues as they arise.

This is genuine plant-facing work where your technical judgment and problem-solving skills directly impact operations. You're not designing from an office - you're supporting the running plant keeping it operational safely and efficiently.
