Product Controller - IPV, PnL

My global banking client, based in London, is looking for a contract Product Controller on a 3 month contract rolling (likely a 12 month assignment), 3 days a week in London office (could be flexible), paying £400pd.

You'll gain in-depth knowledge of trading products, FX risk, funding strategies, and revenue generation. Be a key player in supporting new product initiatives and making a real impact on trading operations. Produce and analyse daily trading P&L, verify desk position and support balance substantiation.

Key skills:

• Experience in working as a Product Controller within a Bank
• Independent Price Verification (IPV)

• P&L Reporting
• Exposure to derivative products and associated accounting entries

Responsibilities:

P&L Reporting:

• Daily & Monthly Reporting: Deliver accurate daily, monthly, and YTD P&L reports with attribution, commentary, FX exposure, and reconciliation between systems and ledgers.
• Control & Compliance: Perform daily control checks, SOX reviews, post-close entries, and ensure timely resolution of balance sheet breaks and P&L discrepancies.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with revenue teams, support functions, and offshore teams; provide regular commentary and analysis for department leads.
• Process Improvement & Oversight: Lead or support reporting process improvements, transition projects, junior staff training, and monthly substantiation activities.

Independent Price Verification (IPV)

• Valuation Oversight: Perform independent reviews of trading position valuations, challenging trader inputs and assessing less observable data.
• Market Data & Pricing Controls: Review market data, collateral, and client valuations to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Regulatory & Risk Compliance: Support FAS 157 hierarchy classification, prudential valuation reviews, and price stress testing.
• Reserving & Provisioning: Calculate and review necessary reserves and provisions based on valuation outcomes.
