A well-established UK energy business is undergoing a major technology transformation under new leadership and is hiring an IT Support Team Lead as a key part of that journey.
This is a newly created role, driven by growth ( potentially scaling from ~180 to 400 employees in future), offering the opportunity to take real ownership of the IT support function and help shape how it evolves.
The opportunity
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll be embedded in the technology owning infrastructure, leading a small support team, and playing a key role in stabilizing and improving a business-critical environment.

What you’ll be doing
- Leading and developing a growing IT support team (1st & 2nd line)
- Acting as the senior escalation point for complex issues
- Owning on-prem infrastructure (VMware, servers, networking)
- Supporting end-user environment (VPN, WiFi, laptops, telephony)
- Maintaining critical systems and internal data centre operations
- Driving improvements in processes, automation, and service delivery
Tech environment
Windows Server | Linux | VMware (vSphere / ESXi) | Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) | AWS / Azure | Backup & DR
What they’re looking for
- Experience leading or mentoring IT support teams
- Strong infrastructure background (servers, networking, virtualization)
- Hands-on experience in on-prem environments
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and cloud platforms
- Strong troubleshooting and stakeholder management skills
Why this role stands out
- Newly created role with real ownership and impact
- Work directly with a new CTO driving transformation
- Opportunity to build and shape the support function
- Clear progression as the team and business grow
- Blend of hands-on infrastructure + leadership responsibility
Onsite requirement (important)
This role is 5 days onsite initially due to the hands-on nature of the infrastructure and data center environment. There is a clear path to reduced onsite once systems are stabilized
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the technology, taking ownership, and building something as the business scales.
