Principal Engineer
A leading UK fintech is hiring a Principal Engineer to help shape the future of a large-scale, cloud-first platform used across lending, savings, and broker technology.
This business supports a significant share of the UK mortgage market and provides software to banks, building societies, specialist lenders, and intermediary networks. Their platform spans the full customer journey, from origination and decisioning through to servicing, CRM, and compliance, with billions processed annually.
They’re looking for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving complex engineering problems across teams, products, and systems.
In this role, you’ll act as a senior technical authority, helping define architecture, improve engineering practices, and guide the evolution of legacy and on-premise systems into scalable, resilient cloud-native platforms.
What you’ll be doing
- Architecting and evolving a complex B2B workflow platform across multiple products
- Leading cross-team initiatives around API design, cloud architecture, and DevOps automation
- Partnering with engineering, product, and delivery leadership on technical roadmap planning
- Driving architectural consistency and setting best-practice patterns across services and codebases
- Coaching and mentoring engineers
- Championing automation, observability, and continuous delivery
- Tackling systemic technical challenges including scalability, reliability, and developer experience
- Exploring emerging technologies and AI tooling to improve engineering effectiveness
- Helping improve engineering maturity, delivery performance, and operational standards
What they’re looking for
- Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript / JavaScript
- Solid background in Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with at least one high-performance language such as Go
- Proven track record designing distributed, cloud-native systems
- Good understanding of API-first architecture, microservices, and event-driven design
- Strong experience with CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code
- A credible technical leader who can influence across teams without direct authority
- Passion for mentoring, technical quality, and pragmatic delivery
- Someone who believes in “you build it, you run it”
- Interest in AI-enabled tooling and improving developer productivity
