The Role

We're looking for an experienced Lead Software Developer to take technical ownership of full-stack solutions across multiple government programmes. You'll guide teams through the entire software development lifecycle - from architecture and design through to implementation and delivery - ensuring best practices, scalability, and security throughout.

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll balance technical delivery with mentoring and architectural direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of full-stack applications using Java, React, JavaScript, and AWS.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to development teams.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, and stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
  • Champion best practices in agile delivery, CI/CD, testing, and cloud-native development.
  • Support and mentor junior and mid-level developers.
  • Ensure all solutions meet government and security compliance standards.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Active SC Clearance.
  • Strong background in Java and React development.
  • Proficiency with AWS and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience leading technical teams or projects in an agile environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a consultancy or client-facing environment.
  • Exposure to UK Government or public sector projects.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture, DevOps practices, and automation tooling.
