  • Platform Engineer opportunity working on cutting-edge AI/ML and secure platform technologies
  • £555 per day via Umbrella
  • Hybrid working – Portsmouth based with 2 days onsite every other week
  • SC Clearance required
ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a leading engineering and technology organisation delivering highly secure, mission-critical solutions within the Defence and National Security sector. They are investing heavily in the evolution of their platform and AI/ML capabilities, supporting complex programmes operating within secure and highly regulated environments. Due to continued programme growth, they are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join their team.

THE PLATFORM ENGINEER ROLE:

As a Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in modernising and evolving existing platform capabilities across multiple environments at different stages of maturity. This is a hands‐on technical leadership position, combining strategic thinking and technical guidance with practical engineering delivery.

You will help drive DevSecOps best practice, support platform automation initiatives and enable secure AI/ML integration within highly regulated and air‐gapped environments.

You will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of DevSecOps solutions and platform improvements
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks and deployment tooling
  • Support Kubernetes and Docker-based containerised environments
  • Develop automation and scripting solutions using Python, Bash and Linux
  • Support AI/ML model integration into operational platforms
  • Work with Apache Kafka and associated data streaming technologies
  • Drive secure development practices within air‐gapped and highly regulated environments
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve platform performance, scalability and security
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers across the wider team
PLATFORM ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Strong Platform Engineering, DevOps or DevSecOps experience
  • Expertise in Kubernetes and Docker
  • Strong CI/CD pipeline development and automation experience
  • Python and Bash scripting skills
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps practices, security scanning and automation
  • Experience working within secure or air‐gapped environments
  • Strong Linux administration skills
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models into production environments
  • Experience with Apache Kafka Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining hands‐on
DESIRABLE SKILLS
  • Experience within Defence, National Security or highly regulated sectors
  • Experience operating within hybrid cloud environments
  • Knowledge of ITAR, compliance frameworks and secure development practices
  • Experience modernising legacy platforms and environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale distributed systems
