The Principal Back-End Developer Role

This is a senior, hands-on position combining deep technical expertise with leadership and mentorship. You will take ownership of back-end architecture and technical strategy, ensuring the platform remains scalable, resilient and aligned to wider business objectives.

Working closely with senior engineers and stakeholders across the organisation, you will define engineering standards, improve development practices and enhance tooling and observability. You will also play a key role in mentoring and supporting other engineers, helping to raise the overall technical capability of the team.

Principal Back-End Developer - Essential Skills

* Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET (6+)* Expert knowledge of SQL Server* Proven experience with Test-Driven Development (NUnit)* Experience building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs* Solid understanding of SOLID principles, OOP and modern back-end design* Confidence diagnosing and resolving complex production issues* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction

Desirable Experience

* Entity Framework or similar ORMs* Azure and modern DevOps / CI/CD practices* Observability tools (logging, metrics, monitoring)* Strong awareness of security best practice
